Chris Marino, MS, Certified Exercise Specialist & Personal Trainer
I've been involved in the fitness industry as a consultant, manager, coordinator, trainer and educator for the past 13 years. During that time I have had the opportunity to meet, learn from and influence a lot of wonderful people across the nation. My experiences along with my unquenchable thirst for understanding have led me to develop an ecclectic approach to exercise programming. I've found that incorporating the best qualities of all major exercise philosophies allows me to create a very specific, results-oriented program for each individual I work with. I believe that having many tools (exercises), the knowledge and intuition of when and how to use them allows me to successfully aid my customers in achieving their goals.
As a former intercollegiate athlete at Rutgers University-Camden, I came to appreciate the value of strength and conditioning for improving performance. Unfortunately, I suffered from many soft tissue injuries (i.e. back pain, shoulder and elbow pain, knee pain, etc.) during college despite my efforts to prevent them. This personal battle with injuries over the past decade is responsible for my passion to understand human movement and has ultimately evolved into my specialization as a therapeutic exercise specialist.
My customers consist mostly of adults who are interested in recreational sports or regular exercise, but who have struggled with injury or pain as a result. My techniques have been described as sophisticated, gentle, progressive and my best trait as patience.
In addition to working one-on-one with customers, I have delivered seminars to thousands of Personal Trainers, Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists and Group Fitness Instructors nationwide through Exercise Etc., Inc. (www.exerciseetc.com). Topics have included everything from Exercise in Chronic Disease Management and Orthopedic Rehabilitation to Advanced Strength Training for Performance.
I am currently the Director of Education for the Exercise Etc., Inc. for whom I spend a great deal of time researching and developing curriculum to ensure we provide the most current and innovative information to our customers. Each month I compile a research review of the hottest topics in fitness, health and disease, exercise science, nutrition, supplementation, and wellness for Exercise Etc, Inc. The review is provided FREE when you sign up for FitBits e-newsletter at www.exerciseetc.com.
